BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Illinois governor vetoes comp medical payments bill

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner on Tuesday vetoed a bill that would have amended workers compensation law in relation to fees and electronic claims.

S.B. 904, which passed both the state Senate and House on May 31 and featured more than three dozen sponsors in the state Assembly, would have imposed interest charges on unpaid services, permitted doctors to sue insurers for unpaid bills, required a medical provider to bill an employer or its designee directly, and would have required that the employer or the insurer send to the provider an explanation of benefits, among other changes to the state’s Workers’ Compensation Act, according to the bill.

The American Insurance Association’s Steve Schneider, vice president for state affairs for the group’s Midwest region, issued a statement Thursday applauding the governor’s decision to veto the bill.

“We are pleased that the governor has chosen to put injured workers’ medical treatment ahead of doctors’ payments,” Mr. Schneider said in the statement. “The workers compensation system is supposed to be about injured workers having their medical bills paid fairly and promptly, and unfortunately, S.B. 904 would have done the opposite.”
