California Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law on Tuesday that will require that medical providers who have been convicted of fraud are suspended.
Under Assembly Bill 1422, the liens of a physician, practitioner or provider and the liens of an entity controlled by one who has been charged with crimes involving the federal Medicare or Medicaid programs, the Medi-Cal program or the workers compensation system are required to be automatically stayed, along with any interest accruing, until disposition of the criminal proceedings, according to the bill’s latest text.
Gov. Brown called AB 1422 “clean-up legislation to last year’s workers comp anti-fraud bills,” according to a memo about the bill.
The California Workers Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau’s Governing Committee voted to amend the WCIRB’s Jan. 1, 2018, pure premium rate filing with a 2% cut on Wednesday.
