A former Veterans Administration nurse in Syracuse, New York, who filed a workers compensation claim for a back injury in 1995, allegedly filed more than $72,000 in false travel claims, acting U.S. Attorney Grant C. Jaquith’s office announced Tuesday.
Linda Sue Parnell, 62, was arraigned Monday on an indictment charging her with four counts of wire fraud and one count of theft of government money, the U.S. attorney’s office reported.
The indictment alleges that Ms. Parnell submitted false claims for reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs for more than five years, fraudulently submitting claims that she traveled to the YMCA of Greater Syracuse for physical rehabilitation when she did not, the office reported.
If convicted, Ms. Parnell faces up to 20 years in prison on each count of wire fraud, and up to 10 years in prison on the count of theft of government money. She also could be subject to a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years on each of the five criminal charges, the office announced.
The Georgia Department of Insurance said Thursday that a Floyd County insurance agent has been arrested on fraud charges related to the misappropriation of workers compensation insurance premiums.
