BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

New York changes insurance regulator

Shirin Emami has been named acting superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services, a spokesman for the governor’s office confirmed Thursday.

Ms. Emami was most recently executive deputy superintendent for the DFS Banking Division. She replaces Linda Lacewell, who resigned effective Aug. 24.

In accordance with New York State law, there must be an Acting Superintendent of DFS, which regulates the insurance sector and other financial organizations, until one can be appointed by incoming Governor Kathy Hochul and then confirmed by the New York State Senate, a DFS spokesman said in an email.

Gov. Hochel was sworn in Tuesday. Previously, she was lieutenant governor to Governor Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.
