BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

COVID-19 cases among nursing home staff at facilities in the U.S. where vaccinations took place declined by 33% in late 2020, compared with 18% at facilities where workers were not vaccinated, according to a study released Thursday by the Center for Health Policy Evaluation in Long Term Care.

The Washington-based research organization examined 797 nursing homes nationwide that conducted their first vaccination clinic from Dec. 18 to Dec. 27, 2020, and compared cases with 1,709 nursing homes in the same counties that had not yet conducted a clinic.

Overall, the vaccinated nursing homes saw a larger decline in new resident and staff cases of COVID-19 three weeks after the vaccine clinics were held.

Vaccinated nursing homes experienced a 48% decline in new resident cases three weeks after the first clinic, compared with a 21% decline among non-vaccinated nursing homes located in the same county, according to the study.

Researchers say the data suggests that spread may be decreased starting three weeks after receiving the first dose of the vaccine.

At the start of the pandemic nursing homes were hit hard with COVID-19 breakouts, and experts worried the infections would not subside.
