MS Amlin names division heads for new specialty unit

MS Amlin has named four division heads for its new specialty business, the insurer and reinsurer said in a statement Thursday.
The specialty business has five divisions, with John Roberts-West named head of property; Laurence Humberstone named head of marine; Jason Herriott named head of crisis management; and Julian Samuel named head of natural resources, the statement said.
All four will report to Mark Clements and Andrew Wright, co-chief underwriting officers of MS Amlin Underwriting Ltd., the statement said.
The search for a head of casualty continues, the statement said.
Mr. Roberts-West is currently product group leader for MS Amlin’s North American and international property portfolio, the statement said.
Mr. Herriott is currently product group leader for war, terrorism, political risks and allied perils at MS Amlin.
Mr. Humberstone is currently specie product group leader and regional manager for specie, war, terrorism and hull.
Mr. Samuel joins Amlin from Markel International syndicate 3000 / MIICL, where he was responsible for underwriting and strategy for the natural resources business unit, the statement said.
The division leaders will be responsible for the design and implementation of the strategy and underwriting approach within their business divisions effective Feb. 1, with the exception of Mr. Samuel, who will join MS Amlin toward the end of February, the statement said.
“The Specialty business will bring together our marine, property and casualty insurance teams to form part of a global specialty franchise across London, the Middle East, the Far East and continental Europe … bringing all specialty capabilities under one roof,” Tom Clementi, CEO of MS Amlin Underwriting Ltd., said in the statement.
