The scent of luxury hasn’t been new car smell for millions of Mercedes-Benz owners, it’s mildew.
Mercedes-Benz owners filed a class-action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz USA LLC and its parent company, Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler AG, alleging that mold growing in the heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems of several Mercedes models led to a smell described as mildew, moldy and “sweat sock smell,” reported news station KIRO7 in Atlanta.
Now relief will be more than an evergreen tree air freshener hanging from the rearview window since the auto maker and car owners have agreed to a settlement.
The car company has agreed to pay for the full number of repairs for an estimated 2.5 million Mercedes-Benz owners, regardless of cost, for up to 10 years from the date the car left the factory, according to the news outlet.
A federal judge has yet to sign off on the deal.
