Pushing car insurance fraud into a new dimension

Most have heard of setting their own car on fire or staging an accident to collect insurance cash, but an Ohio man who pleaded guilty to insurance fraud Wednesday pushed the limits.
Randall White, of Elyria, Ohio, was caught on camera in October 2018 driving his SUV to a cliff over the Black River and pushing it over in an effort to collect on his car insurance policy, FOX 8 reported.
Not knowing whether someone was trapped in what an emergency call revealed was an overturned vehicle in the river, local rescue teams from surrounding cities rushed to the cliffs, according to the news station.
“It was not an easy rescue by any means,” a local police captain told a reporter. And yet, no body was found: the driver had already walked home to call his insurance company and police to report his car stolen.
When police became of aware, a check of nearby surveillance cameras revealed play-by-play of insurance fraud in action, according to the report.
Mr. White was charged with insurance fraud, making false alarms and inducing panic. He apologized to a judge and was sentenced to three years of probation.
