Sompo International Holdings Ltd. on Tuesday said it has named Mikio Okumura CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2020.
Mr. Okumura also will be appointed an executive director of Sompo International and plans to relocate to its office in New York, the insurer said in a statement.
Previously, he was Sompo Group’s chief strategy officer, according to the statement. He will report to John Charman, CEO of Sompo Holdings Inc.’s overseas insurance and reinsurance business and chairman of Sompo International.
Mr. Okumura will succeed Nigel Frudd, who will remain responsible for overseas mergers and acquisitions for the Sompo Group, the statement said.
Mr. Frudd will also act as a special adviser to Sompo Group CEO Kengo Sakurada on other critical global issues, effective April 1, 2020.
Mr. Okumura now serves as Sompo Group’s chief strategy officer, is an executive officer of Sompo Holdings and is a nonexecutive director of Sompo International, the statement said.
John Charman, currently chairman and CEO of Sompo International Holdings Ltd., has been named CEO of overseas insurance business for Sompo Holdings Inc., effective April 1, 2019.
