Pot not child’s play: Cannabis firm faces lawsuit over logo

A Canadian children’s entertainment company is not happy that a medical marijuana dispensary chain in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has a logo they say closely resembles that of one of their channels, according to media reports.
Toronto-based Nelvana Enterprises Inc. filed its copyright infringement suit in federal court in Tulsa, alleging that Treehouse Dispensaries “willfully copied and is using a confusing similar imitation” of a logo it has featured with its children’s television programming since the 1990s, the Tulsa World reported Tuesday.
Both logos of the word “Treehouse” feature similar bubble-block lettering.
Nelvana, whose channel features “Peppa Pig” and “Dora the Explorer,” is alleging that the marijuana dispensary promised to stop using the trademarked logo but didn’t provide a timeline and neglected to follow through in a timely manner, according to the newspaper. It is seeking financial damages from revenue that Treehouse Dispensary earned while using the logo at its various locations in Oklahoma.
Treehouse Dispensaries’ attorney said the business “categorically denies” the accusations and will “vigorously defend” itself in court, according to the newspaper.
