BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Ryan Specialty snags former AmTrust execs for new Barcelona office

Chicago-based Ryan Specialty Group LLC on Monday said it will open an office in Barcelona and has hired four former AmTrust Group executives as it looks to expand its transactional risk business in Europe.

The Barcelona office will focus on providing core transactional risk insurance, including warranty & indemnity and commercial tax liability to brokers across Europe, the company said in a statement.

Ryan Specialty has hired transactional risk experts Luc Joordens and Marta Batalla as directors of RSG Spain based in Barcelona, supported by Luis Feijoo and Isabel den Hollander, the company said.

Mr. Joordens was previously underwriting manager M&A insurance and financial lines for ANV Global Services Ltd., part of the AmTrust Group, while Ms. Batalla, Mr. Feijoo  and Ms. den Hollander also held roles at ANV Global Services, a spokeswoman said via email.

Kerry Westwell has also been hired as head of tax, based in London, and joins the company after 21 years in private practice advising clients on U.K. and international tax matters, Ryan Specialty said in the statement.

As part of the expansion, Hunter George & Partners Ltd., the London-based transactional risk specialist managing general agent that Ryan Specialty acquired in 2015, will be renamed RSG Transactional Risks Europe, effective Sept. 1, the statement said.

“The transactional risk practice has experienced significant growth in 2019. We have hired nine experts which has expanded our team to 19 professionals,” Ian Theato, director of Hunter George, said in the statement.
