Boston-based Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has introduced a professional liability and network security and privacy policy in Canada and named an executive to head the country’s professional lines business, the company said Monday.
Berkshire Hathaway’s “Professional First Professional Liability and Network Security & Privacy” policy is designed to is designed to address the needs of a wide range of enterprises and provides coverage for numerous exposures, including third-party exposures resulting from security and privacy breaches; a wide range of direct expenses incurred in responding to a breach or extortion threat; media liability exposures; and lost income and related exposures.
The company also said in its statement that Geoffrey Kendrick, who previously held various underwriting roles at Zurich Insurance Group Ltd., is joining Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance in its Toronto office as head of professional lines in Canada.
The commercial insurance and property/casualty reinsurance operations of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. saw decreases in underwriting income in 2016 as gains from favorable prior-year loss development eased, according to the conglomerate’s annual report released Saturday.
