BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

2017 RIMS President Nowell Seaman

Nowell Seaman has been named the new president of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. effective Jan. 1, the group said Tuesday.

Mr. Seaman is the director of global risk management for Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. He has been a RIMS member for 21 years, on its board of directors for nine years and previously served as vice president. He also served as chair of the RIMS Canada Council in 2003-2005.

“The narrative is changing,” Mr. Seaman said in a statement. “More organizations are recognizing the positive side of risk. They are witnessing the power of risk management and its ability to identify new resources, new processes and new strategies that can take the organization to new heights.”

Robert Cartwright Jr., Exton, Pennsylvania-based safety and health manager of Bridgestone Retail Operations L.L.C., has taken over as vice president of RIMS; Steve Pottle, director of risk management services for York University in Toronto, has assumed the role of treasurer; and Gloria Brosius, corporate risk manager for Pinnacle Agriculture Holdings in Loveland, Colorado, has become the new secretary.

Ellen Dunkin, senior vice president, general counsel and chief risk officer of Amalgamated Life Insurance Co. in New York, and Soubhagya Parija, senior vice president and chief risk officer, New York Power Authority in White Plains, New York, have joined the RIMS board of directors.
