London underwriter hires cyber executives

London-based Talbot Underwriting Ltd. has hired cyber underwriter Phil Mayes, formerly of ANV Syndicates.
Talbot, a unit of Hamilton, Bermuda Validus Holdings Ltd., said in a statement Thursday Mr. Mayes will join it as senior class underwriter. Mr. Mayes was previously class underwriter, cyber and technology E&O, at ANV Syndicates, a unit of Netherlands-based ANV Holdings B.V.
Also hired was Gillian Anderson, an underwriter who most recently worked at ANV syndicate 1861, specializing in cyber, technology and media.
It could not immediately be learned whether both had been hired directly from ANV.
New York-based AMTrust Financial Services Inc. announced Nov. 7 it had completed its acquisition of ANV Holdings and its affiliates from Toronto-based Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan for about $203 million in cash.
“As Talbot continues to develop its cyber offering, it is essential that we bring in talented individuals with deep expertise in the sector, building on our studies in this area with Cambridge University,” James Skinner, Talbot’s chief underwriting officer, said in the statement.
