BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Rain cuts short fun golf outing to benefit Spencer Foundation

For 113 attendees, the 2016 Risk & Insurance Management Inc. conference didn't kick off Sunday — it teed off and hit its own 25-year milestone: getting rained out.

The 25th annual Spencer/Gallagher Golf Tournament was held Sunday at Maderas Golf Club, where participants arrived early and ready, donning windbreakers, gloves and sweaters to brave the 60% chance of rain and a wet yet picturesque course, canyon views and hills of green dotted with colorful wildflowers.

By the 10th hole, it was time to call it a day.

“We've never been rained out,” said Butler Bourgeois, tournament co-chair, who chatted earlier in the morning with Timothy Boston, his co-chair, about whether this would be the year.

At least one record had been set that morning: the largest number of participants—128 paid and 113 showing up to play—in the last five years, Mr. Boston said. The event raised $40,000 — the same as in years past — and will benefit the Spencer Educational Foundation Inc.

“This is such a fun group and a great cause,” said Jeff Perkins, Dallas-based vice president of business development for FirstOnSite Restoration L.P.

Matt Rosenberg, Philadelphia-based principal with Rosenburg & Parker Inc. and 10-year tournament participant, said he enjoys the camaraderie. “It's a great opportunity to play golf and talk business.”

Alec Russo, Nico Garcia, Jason Timlan and Harvey Brown won first place as a team. Second in the team category were Peter Heard, Tim Bunt, John Polling and Scott Hamm. Placing third via a tie-breaker were Matias Harju, Rikard Oijermark, Gene Pinkus and Robert Patterson.

The longest women's drive was made by Tracey McDonough of Belfor Property Restoration. The longest men's drive was made by Alec Russo of Samuelson, Gonzalez, Valenzuela & Brown L.L.P.
