Texas doubles captive insurer count in 2015

The number of captive insurers licensed in Texas, one of the newest U.S. captive domiciles, nearly doubled in 2015, according to the Texas Department of Insurance in Austin.

Last year, 11 captives were licensed and one captive dissolved, bringing the state's captive count at year-end 2015 to 21, the insurance department said in an email Friday.

The new captives licensed were all single-parent, the only kind allowed Texas' 2013 captive statute.
