BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Restrepo receives Griffith Lifetime Achievement Award

Robert Restrepo was presented with The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation's 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award in a ceremony at the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America's annual meeting Tuesday.

“The heart of our industry is education,” said Mr. Restrepo upon receiving the award. “PCI does a fantastic job of educating regulators and legislators and people in the public domain who very much influence our industry.”

“We are doing our best at Griffith to introduce more and more students to take over the seats of the individuals in this room,” said Janice Abraham, CEO of United Educators in Chevy Chase, Maryland, who presented the award.

The Griffith Foundation Leadership Council presents the award each year to honor excellence from a short list of candidates chosen from a group that includes insurance leaders, executives and academics.

This year's winner was recognized for exemplary commitments to education and for his support of the missions of The Griffith Foundation and PCI, the organizations said in a statement.

“The Griffith Foundation does a fantastic job providing the content necessary to prepare the next generation of leadership,” said Mr. Restrepo.

Mr. Restrepo, of Columbus, Ohio, is chairman of the board of directors of State Auto Insurance Cos. He previously served as senior vice president of personal lines at Aetna Life & Casualty Co.; president and CEO of personal lines at Travelers Cos. Inc.; president and CEO at Allmerica Financial Corp.; and senior vice president of insurance operations at Main Street America Group.

Mr. Restrepo also serves on the board of directors of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and the Insurance Information Institute Inc. He previously was chairman of both PCI and the American Insurance Association, according to the statement.

“I can think of no one more deserving of this Griffith Lifetime Achievement award than Bob Restrepo,” said Ms. Abraham. “Bob is literally Mr. P&C insurance. He is a strong proponent of the independent agent system, and he knows insurance. He is a leader in insurance and a really, really nice guy.”

“Robert has been an important leader in our industry for many years now,” David Sampson, PCI president and CEO, said in the statement. “He is a dedicated professional whose work has made a very beneficial impact on the missions of The Griffith Foundation and PCI. We are proud to name him as a recipient of this award.”
