Validus Americas appoints president to run its MGA

Validus Re, the reinsurance division of Validus Holdings Ltd., said it has appointed James Franson president of Validus Americas, Validus Re’s Boston-based managing general agent, which underwrites for its Swiss reinsurance company.

In this new role, Mr. Franson will expand Validus Re’s domestic U.S. reinsurance strategy and develop their casualty reinsurance business operation, Validus Re said in a statement Monday.

Previously, Mr. Franson was chief underwriting officer of Arch Reinsurance Co. Inc. He was responsible for all property and casualty underwriting in the U.S. and Canada. He is a founding member of the Arch management team, according to the statement.

He will be based in New York in this newly created role, according to the statement.

“Jim’s extensive operational and underwriting experience in the reinsurance business will prove invaluable as Validus Re broadens its U.S. domestic reinsurance strategy and develops its casualty reinsurance business. Jim’s tenure and expertise are unmatched in the industry, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our team” said Kean Driscoll, CEO of Validus Re.
