Hub International acquires two agencies, book of broker business

Chicago-based middle-market insurance broker Hub International Ltd. has announced three acquisitions by its subsidiaries in New Mexico, Massachusetts and Canada.

Terms of the acquisitions, announced on Friday, were not disclosed.

Hub International Insurance Services has acquired shares of Carlsbad Insurance Agency Inc., a Carlsbad, New Mexico-based full-service brokerage firm that provides property/casualty, employee benefits, personal insurance and risk management to individuals in New Mexico and beyond. Carlsbad also has expertise in serving the energy industry.

The Carlsbad operations will form a new office location for Hub’s New Mexico operations, and Carlsbad President Angela Johnston will join that office. Her new title was not disclosed.

Meanwhile, Hub International New England L.L.C. has acquired the assets of E. J. Wells Insurance Agency Inc., a Westford, Massachusetts-based full-service brokerage firms.

E.J. Wells President Paul J. Coffey will join Hub New England as executive vice president, reporting to Charles J. Brophy, CEO of Hub New England.

Founded in 1990, E.J. Wells provides property/casualty, employee benefits and personal insurance to businesses and individuals throughout New England and has expertise in serving the construction industry.

Finally, Hub International HKMB Ltd. has acquired a book of commercial lines business from St. Andrews Insurance Brokers Ltd., a Vaughan, Ontario, insurance brokerage.
