BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Former Control Components exec pleads guilty to making illegal payments to Greek official: Justice Dept.

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A former vp at a California valve manufacturer has pleaded guilty to making illegal payments to a Greek government official, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

David Edmonds, who had served as vp of worldwide customer service for Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.-based Control Components Inc., admitted violations of the federal Foreign Corrupt Practices Act before a U.S. District Court judge in Santa Ana, Calif., on June 15. Control Components is the principal subsidiary of Birmingham, England-based IMI plc., employing approximately 3,950 people worldwide.

Mr. Edmonds is the seventh former Control Components executive to plead guilty to FCPA violations since federal investigators uncovered a bribery scheme that spanned four years and involved more than 30 countries, according to the Justice Department. He faces a maximum jail term of 15 months at sentencing, scheduled for Nov. 19.

Control Components itself was convicted in 2009 on charges of conspiracy and bribing foreign officials. The company admitted that it had netted profits of approximately $46.5 million as a result of corrupt payments made from 2003 to 2007.

Control Components was ordered to pay $18.2 million in fines and placed on organizational probation for three years. The company was also ordered to implement a compliance program and submit to independent monitoring for three years.

Since January 2009, three other former Control Components executives, including its former president, Stuart Carson, have all pleaded guilty to making corrupt payments to foreign government officials. Another three former executives have pleaded guilty to conspiring to violate the FCPA. All six are also awaiting sentencing later this year.

An eighth executive, the former president of the company's Korean office, has been indicted for violating the FCPA.

A spokeswoman for Control Components declined to comment on Mr. Edmonds' guilty plea or any of the connected cases.
