BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

RIMS encourages attendees to get social in Philadelphia

Organizers of this year’s Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc.’s conference in Philadelphia hope to boost connectivity and engagement among attendees and exhibitors with a full-court press of social media links, displays, contests and more.

“We have a bigger social media program planned this year than we ever have before,” said Nikole TenBrink, RIMS’ marketing and communications director.

For this year’s conference, she said, RIMS social media “teams” will circulate throughout the conference sessions, exhibits and networking events. The teams, which will be easy to spot in their bright green T-shirts, will hand out information and promotional materials encouraging attendees and exhibitors to post content and photos to RIMS’ Facebook, Twitter and Flickr accounts.

“They’ll also have all the details on the contests we’re running, which will have prizes for the best photo, most insightful tweet and most retweeted post,” Ms. TenBrink said.

A team made up of student RIMS members will tweet, take pictures and post content as they network with attendees throughout the conference.

Attendees also will be able to connect directly to the RIMS social media channels through its new RIMS 2012 mobile app, which is available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry users. But they won’t have to stay buried in their laptops or smartphones to follow the activity on RIMS’ social media networks. In addition to streaming displays at the RIMS Cyber Station kiosk and its exhibition booth, organizers have arranged a “social media wall,” with real-time updates of all RIMS-related social media activity. Select posts and photos also will be incorporated into displays at the general sessions.

Ms. TenBrink said RIMS elected to ramp up its online social programming this year after seeing its following on Twitter and Facebook balloon over the past 18 months. The organization’s Twitter following grew 360% in 2011, while its Facebook following jumped 150% compared with the previous year.

“We’re looking to connect with our attendees on a level that goes beyond the actual conference dates in Philadelphia,” Ms. TenBrink said. “It’s not just about getting new RIMS members, but communicating with the risk management community as a whole and helping them connect with each other.”
