Chicago health system teams with Cigna to improve outcomes

Cigna Corp. on Tuesday said it has entered into a value-based care arrangement with Rush Health in Chicago.
Through the partnership, Bloomfield, Connecticut-based Cigna will provide Rush Health's physician network incentives to achieve better health outcomes. The Chicago-based health system includes four hospitals and more than 1,300 Chicago-area physicians.
Incentives will be based on Rush Health's “effectiveness in adhering to evidence-based medicine guidelines,” a Cigna spokesman said in an email, though he declined to detail the value of the incentives.
Through its Collaborative Care program, Cigna has about 150 value-based partnerships in 29 states, according to the statement.
The partnership aims to close gaps in care, such as missed health screenings or prescription refills, according to the statement. It also aims to increase the number of preventive health visits with primary care doctors and improve follow-up care.
Cigna also said it will pay Rush Health to help individuals with chronic conditions and other health issues to navigate the health care system through registered nurse care coordinators.
New addiction effort
Also on Tuesday, Cigna announced a collaboration with the American Society of Addiction Medicine to improve treatment for those with substance use disorders. In a separate statement, Cigna said it will provide the organization with two years of anonymous customer claims related to substance use for ASAM to analyze. The organization will use the claims to ensure adherence to its performance measures related to medication prescribing for alcohol and opioid use disorders and treatment after withdrawal management, according to the statement.
