BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Consultant takes reins of national health care coalition

Michael Thompson, a long-time health care consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P., has been named president and CEO of the National Business Coalition on Health, the Washington-based organization announced Monday.

The nonprofit NBCH is composed of 51 employer-led coalitions that are committed to an improvement in the value of health care provided by employer-sponsored plans.

During his 20 years with PwC in New York, Mr. Thompson worked with a wide range of employers to help keep their health plan costs under control through such strategies as plan redesign, wellness programs and moving to private health insurance exchanges.

“I'm very excited by this opportunity,” Mr. Thompson said. “Employers can play a key role in driving change in the health care field. I very much look forward to being part of that driving force.”

Mr. Thompson “has the ideal skill set and relationships with businesses and other key stakeholders to lead NBCH in this rapidly changing business environment. We look forward to working with him to build and leverage the collective strength of our member coalitions,” Karen van Caulil, NBCH board chair and CEO of the Florida Heath Care Coalition in Winter Springs, Florida, said in a statement.

Mr. Thompson succeeds Brian Klepper, who left the NBCH in May 2015 in what he said was a disagreement with the NBCH board over the direction of the organization.

After Mr. Klepper left, Charles Smithers, previously the NBCH's chief operating officer, agreed to serve as the organization's interim CEO until the position was filled, at which point he would retire.
