Companies that make a conscious effort to diversify their staffs are more innovative and outperform their competitors, according to Dr. Ian Williamson, associate dean of international relations at the Melbourne Business School in Australia. To prove his hypothesis, Professor Williamson cites research he conducted on German grocery store chain Aldi, which reported 20% higher sales among North American stores that employed a diverse workforce that reflected the demographics of the communities in which they were located.
